This Intro to Yin Yoga workshop is the perfect introduction into the world of Yin. In this 75 minute workshop/class format, through both practice and explanation, you will learn: **The concept of Yin and Yang and the importance of balancing these two energies. **The basics of Yin yoga and its benefits through yoga practice, inquiry and explanation. **How the yin and yang way of practicing yoga go beyond the actual movements and poses. Modern yoga has its roots in Eastern mysticism and its original emphasis was focused on meditation and stillness. In the early 1900’s, yoga began to change and was influenced by gymnastics, wrestling and Western sensibilities. Today’s yoga, as practiced in the West, is totally unique; it was created for benefits that Westerners desire. These benefits are considerable in many ways. However, if you’ve been doing yoga for a while now, you may be experiencing just half of the practice and only some of the benefits that are available. Most yoga forms today are dynamic, active practices designed to work only “half” of the body, the muscular half, the Yang tissues. The practice of Yin yoga works the other half; the deeper Yin tissues of our ligaments, tendons, deep fascial networks and even our bones! It’s important that we “exercise” both these tissues to experience optimal health and vitality. Even with a sweaty and strong Yang practice, we can learn to adopt a Yin sensitivity that will enhance both practices. Furthermore, we can learn to adopt a Yin awareness within our active yang lifestyle which in turn can foster greater contentment and peace. What you’ll need: yoga mat, block(s), blanket and/or towel to roll up for support if needed, notebook and pen.
This class is appropriate for all students with all experience levels, including new and beginner students who are still learning the basics.
You'll get a great workout, and still have energy later.
