6 Good Questions with Emily Wiadro

Published 4/5/2024

Meet Emily! As of March, she's been with Ompractice for 4 years teaching Gentle Flow: Mid-day Release on Tuesdays at 1:10pm ET / 10:10am PT (50 min) and Wednesdays at 3pm ET / 12pm PT (60 min). We hope you can catch one of her live classes but if you can't, there is a class in the Video Library waiting for you!

Who are your classes for? What kind of vibe can people expect in your class? What is your teaching style like?

My classes are for any BODY who wants to deepen their attention to the body, mind and breath connection. I approach each class with genuine attention to the needs of the students who attend. My style is relaxed, informative, and sprinkled with a little humor along with constant invitations to be present with what your body is telling you.

How did you get into yoga? Do you have other favorite types of movement?

I was introduced to yoga as a young mother, recovering from 3rd childbirth, and doing a friend a favor to keep her company while doing this yoga Baron Baptiste power yoga video... My body LOVED the practice and I dove in, head first. I have been a dancer since age 5, and found that the yoga practice not only made me feel stronger and more balanced in my body, but my dancing, and confidence in performance, also greatly improved with this deeper connection of body, mind and breath.

What's the most valuable lesson you've learned from your own practice? What does yoga mean to you?

The most valuable lesson I have learned through my own practice is that less is more. Slow is always better. And my attention to my breath trumps ALL when I need to feel grounded, safe, and present.

Do you have any pets? We love our #petsofompractice ❤️

My beloved dog Apollo has been with us for 6 years. He came to us from the local shelter deaf and is the sweetest, most loving, and most delightful mush of a puppy dog that ever walked the planet. I'm not biased at all. We call him Poopie, or Mr. Pooperton, and most commonly, Pooperton Baby Dog. He doesn't miss a yoga practice, and honoring his own body wisdom, chooses to practice from the couch in my yoga space.

What is your favorite easy seasonal recipe to share right now?

My favorite recipe to share is Kitchari. Many people aren't familiar with this ayurvedic dish which offers a clean, nutritious, and satisfying meal to anyone looking for a loving way to nourish themselves, especially during changes of seasons. It's a go-to meal for me, especially for potlucks, as it is vegan.

Tell us a bit about your morning routine and what gets you revved up/excited for the day?

My morning generally starts with a cup of warm water with fresh lemon juice. In 3 seasons at least, I like to get outside barefoot to greet my chickens and the beautiful river that runs alongside our home. Honestly, the thing that gets me excited for my day is the prospect of sharing the benefits of yoga with others. I am kind of a yoga missionary, in a way. Ever since I found this portal to well-being for myself, I can't help but fly the flag and sing the song of this ancient and potent practice.

For fun, we always like to have a few extra credit questions:

  • What's one life-changing product under $25 you'd recommend?

  • I love my Theracane which costs $39! This gadget is so effective in accessing those spots on your back, in just the way you need, with your desired pressure. Here's a less expensive version under $25

  • Most delicious bite of food lately?

  • A super moist and rich brownie my mommy made while visiting my folks in Florida last weekend.

  • Best books on your shelf?
